Message from the President

Fifteen years ago, I worked with the first international team in a cluster-based regional competitiveness program . I realized that not only does the success of these projects depend on a world class methodology, but also that they must be delivered by a local team.

I was fortunate enough to be present at the birth of Michael E. Porter's methodological framework, and I have since been able to apply it in my home country, Catalonia, in 28 cluster initiatives. Through these experiences, we have learned from our errors and have developed a hands-on implementation methodology. Now we have applied it, using local teams trained by COMPETITIVENESS, in more than 130 projects, in places as diverse as England, Argentina, Denmark and Thailand.

In implementing projects, our consultants rely upon a combination of critical knowledge and skills that might seem contradictory:

 - Strong analytical thinking combined with process facilitation skills
 - Business acumen combined with an understanding of how governments work
 - The ability to both learn and teach

I am happy to see that across the globe, committed local teams are applying our world-class methodology in their home countries.
